Iron Maiden Fans/EdHeads/RivetHeads
Hey Iron Maiden fans of AO, im really bored so im starting a thread for Maiden fans to declare themselves.
Just post saying u are one, and ur favorite album and song. Piece of Mind is the Album, but Aces High or Rime of the Ancient Mariner, or Hallowed be thy Name is the Song |
I like a bit of maiden.
Why did you mention rivetheads? Iron Maiden are far from industrial. Favourite album would have to be either Killers or the self titled. As for song, it changes a fair bit currently it would have to Dance Of Death or Murders In The Rue Morgue. |
I've never really been able to decide on one particular album as being favourite, so I'll just give a list of the albums I have and favourite songs from them.
Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden Killers - Murders in the Rue Morgue The Number of the Beast - Hallowed Be Thy Name Piece of Mind - Flight of Icarus Powerslave - Aces High Somewhere In Time - Stranger in a Strange Land Seventh Son of a Seventh Son - The Evil That Men Do Fear of the Dark - Fear of the Dark No Prayer for the Dying - Holy Smoke Brave New World - Ghost of the Navigator Dance of Death - Dance of Death Still trying to get my hands on Piece of Mind & No Prayer For The Dying |
****A PUBLIC APOLOGY TO ALL AO FOLKS - I was away for a few days and my roomate's coked-out boyfriend/leech decided he was going to have some fun on my comp. I am posting this disclaimer over all the 'Imposter' posts made in my name. I hold myself responsible for this error and I wish to APOLOGIZE ABJECTLY to any and all who were offended by these posts****
no fave album, though Number Of The Beast is always good. the 'live pub recording' of the band, drunk and falling over, performing a quickie version of Phantom Of The Opera (kinda bootleg, maybe it's available widely now) is one of my fave's, though the bootlegs of their Yokohama '93 (I think it was 1993) gigs are to die for. |
If they ever come to AUS again... I'll be there.
|
I would have to say Piece of Mind ... all songs.
This was the album I learned bass guitar on as a teenager. |
Anyone seen them live?

At the end of the show, the drum kit was raised to reveal Eddie's inflatable head. The others on either side of the stage ended up inside inflatable hands. Also, during the set, a huge Eddie-bot was walking around on stage while Bruce was fighting with it/him. Pretty cool show. |
I've seen plenty of live videos and it does look like they put on a pretty good show. Hopefully I will get a chance to see them live before they get too old... :jamn:
|
I never did get to see them but I sure would like to.

Have u seen the Pictures of Eddie where he doesnt have hair? Well, the Eddie in them always has his skull cut out, and his brain removed, so to hold his newly sawed skull in one piece, theres a Rivet to hold it there, so some Maiden fans call themselves Rivet Heads. |

Yeah the rivet is present from Piece Of Mind onwards. Even so Rivethead is a term for those who listen to industrial just like metalhead is for those who listen to metal. Then again its a label that has been misused before and will continue to be misused along with metalcore. |

Both times I was waaaay back in the nosebleeds, which is a good place to be left alone by the cops (if you know what I mean, nudge, nudge). but the SOUND was fantastic, and what I could see of the shows was equally good. and Bruce Dickenson was hammered at both concerts ... at least he slurred a lot. Maybe that's how he normally speaks... |

U saw them on the Slavery Tour??? Now im jealous. I wasnt even born yet, i really want to go back in time and see the World Piece tour. And i dont get to go to Ozzfest, so i cant see that tour, so im gonna buy Death on the Road, their next live album! |
Grrr, they need to come to AUSTRALIA!

They should have a World in Irons tour or something. Like the name i came up with? |
Yeh, that would be sweet.
Good name for a tour as well. :D |
It's funny how so many songs written in the 80's (not just Maiden but a lot of metal, thrash, and pure rock bands) seem to have as much relevance today as then...
Living under the Nuclear Umbrella inspired the songs I speak of. Makes me wonder about the now, I mean, is it possible we've managed to replace one massive anxiety (US vs USSR and everything glows after) with a whole handful of semi-major anxieties? I was thinking of Two Minutes To Midnight when this thought popped into my head. as well, music by RUSH and Living Colour occured to me. **Oh, and as a digression, IM89, have you ever heard King's X? They're a power trio out of Texas, kind of Christian in their beliefs but they don't do Christian-style music (i.e. - I Found Jesus and Lost My Talent). Based on your comments I believe you might either already know them or would enjoy their stuff. *** |

Also Quest for Fire, "Drawn by quest for fire, they searched all through the land. Drawn by quest for fire, discovery of man." We dont search for fire anymore, but back then, fire was the biggest technology. In the song it says that "..They ploughed through forests and swamps of danger, and they fought the cannibal tribes and beasts. In the search, to find another fire, to regain the power of light and heat" We do that today, we do risky research in order to gain technology that helps us gain power. |
Id have loved to have seen them at Ozzfest. From what I heard from the kids that went, they havent lost the energy or the passion from the 80's. That would have been nice to experience.
